Thurman Events 2010

Please note that Thurman town hall and Veterans’ Memorial Field are located at 311 Athol Road, Athol, NY 12810. The town hall is wheelchair accessible, as is the field. While bus groups are welcomed at most of our events, it is strongly advised that organizers prearrange. Guests should bring chairs or blankets to Veterans’ Memorial Field. Saturday, September 11th ~ 14th Annual Fiddlers’ Jamboree, Thurman town hall, Veterans’ Memorial Field, 8 a.m.-10 p.m. $10. Schedule at Fiddler's Jamboree Info... 518-623-9961. Fire Company breakfast. Bluegrass and fiddle music all day; open mic, dancing, food, field picking. Bring a chair. Rain/shine. Hosted by John Thurman Historical Society.

Sunday, September 12th ~ 14th Annual Fiddlers’ Jamboree. Veterans’ Memorial Field, noon- 8 p.m. Donation.  info@Thurman-NY.com or 518-623-9961. Bring chair for old-fashioned gospel music all afternoon to early evening, and Singspiration singalong, rain/shine. Hosted by John Thurman Historical Society.

October 9th ~ Nettle Meadow Goat Farm Open House, 484 S. Johnsburg Rd., Thurman. Saturday only, noon – 4 p.m. Free. 518-623-9718, www.nettlemeadow.com.  Tour the historic farm, visit animals, sample goat cheese delicacies and shop for gourmet cheeses; special activities.

October 9th – 10th ~  Thurman Fall Farm Tour, all over Athol/Thurman 10:00 a.m. - 4 p.m., free; 518-623-9718, Fall Farm Tour Info... Visit farms all over Thurman. See farm animals, visit sugar houses, sugar bush, tour a tree farm, and enjoy demonstrations and special activities at the sites. 9 a.m. Pancake breakfast at Valley Road Maple Farm. Free locator maps in area and online, family fun. 

October 13th ~ A “Spooktacular” Thurman Station Farmers’ Market, 815 NYS route 418, Thurman. 3 – 6 p.m. Free. 518-623-9718, Farmers Market Info...  Prizes, special Halloween activities. Vegetables, eggs, baked goods, maple products, handmade Adirondack items. Last market of the season.

Saturday, October 23rd ~ Thurman Youth Halloween Party. Town Hall, 311 Athol Rd, Athol. 1 – 3 p.m. Free.  www.Thurman-NY.com or 518-623- 9961. Costume competition, games and food. Community contributions of treats welcomed. Parents please accompany children.

Saturday, November 27th ~ Country Christmas Bazaar, Town Hall, 9 a.m.– 3 p.m. Free.  www.Thurman-NY.com or 518-623- 9961. An amazing array of hand‑crafted items made by local artisans. Door prizes. Food available. Sale benefits Christmas Basket Fund.

Saturday, December 11th ~Thurman Youth Christmas Party & Community Tree Trimming.  Thurman Town Hall, 1 – 3 p.m., kids; 3 – 5 p.m., community. Free.  www.Thurman-NY.com or 518-623- 9961.  Visit from  Santa, gifts, refreshments, ages infant to 12 with parents,  followed by tree-trimming and sing-along for all ages.

To attend events at Thurman Town Hall or Veterans’ Memorial Field: from Northway exit 23 (Warrensburg), proceed north on Rt. 9, left on Rt. 418, over and along and back over the river for 3.5 miles to Athol Road on the right. Take Athol Road to Thurman Town Hall (311 Athol Road) and Veterans’ Memorial Field. From The Glen, leave NYS Route 28 at The Glen Lodge & Market, following Glen-Athol Road about 6 miles to the second stop sign. Turn left (Athol Road) and find Town Hall and Veterans’ Memorial Field on your right in less than half a mile.
