Tentative List of Activities

Ride the first passenger train in Thurman New York since 1956! Trains will run between Thurman Station and 1000 Acres Ranch Resort at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Guests will have time at 1000 Acres to visit the ranch gift shop, or, if riding the 11 a.m. train, may prearrange to stay for lunch, a variety of sporting activities, or even a swim or horseback ride. See detailed schedule below. 

Buy the "River, Ranch and Rail Ramble" package! Make a reservation here or just show up and hope to be accommodated. Package includes canoe or kayak ride, lunch at 1000 Acres, and a train ride home. Starts at Beaver Brook Outfitters on route 418 about 9:30 a.m. and the train will have you back in Thurman Station at 12:30 p.m. A van will take you back to Beaver Brook site. • You won't believe what interesting and talented people have been hiding in our hills. Sample gourmet goat cheese, and play with the baby goats under our canopy. Meet a local children's author and the miniature horse (live) who serves as the central character of her book. Buy locally made maple products and rustic furnishings, and find traditional balsam pillows, as well as embroidered note cards, mirrored plates, draft stoppers, stained glass stepping stones, hand-crafted signs antiques and more.

Find giveaway items by local businesses and handouts from area organizations. The Upstate Model Railroaders will be on hand, as will the 4-H representative from Cornell Cooperative Extension in Warren County. More are signing up every day, so don't miss the bustling open-air market, under cover at Thurman Station on route 418, going on from 10:30 a.m. till 2:30 p.m.

Timetable

The train will make two trips to 1000 Acres Ranch Resort, leaving Thurman at 11:00 a.m. and 1 p.m. Each leisurely leg of the trip takes about ½ hour, and the train will wait ½ hour before the next departure. If you opt only for the train ride, you will have half an hour to get off the train, stretch your legs and shop. If you want to eat lunch at the ranch or participate in activities ($10 fee. Payable to 1000 Acres), you must take the 11 a.m. train.
