NEXT....

Coming in June:

As always, the Quarterly staff is seeking stories that only you can supply. In the March issue we featured stories about yesterday's guides, hunters, hunting camps and the like. We will continue the theme with more stories of those Thurman residents trying to eke out a living by guiding today. The stories we've already received are exciting and entertaining. We've also received a wonderful story about Loren Walter, and are expecting a profile of another influential man in Thurman's past. We're interested in anything you want to tell us, however long or short, and photographs are always an added bonus. If you do not have stories of your own to tell, consider going out to talk to someone in our community. Articles should be sent to Perky Granger, 11 Clarence Russell Road, Warrensburg, NY 12885. Or, better yet, send an email to Perky with the story attached. Photos are a special part of each issue. With your address label on the back of each photo and a paper giving caption information, mail them to Diane Golden, 675 Garnet Lake Road, Warrensburg, NY 12885. If they have been scanned (don't feel you need to scan them for us), email to Diane.

DOWN THE ROAD
...for December... This year your December Quarterly will actually be the 2008 JTHS community calendar, sold to the public for $8, but provided to members at the usual Quarterly cost. If you have old photos that you can share for inclusion, please contact Diane or Perky.

...for next March, maybe:
What do yo
u know about famous (or infamous!) people who have visited or resided in Thurman? Think of public officials, entertainers, newscasters, artists, poets, dancers, inlaws, outlaws.... Let Perky know, supplying any details you may have about who, when, where--and whatever. If you have photos of the subject, you win a gold star! As always, the sooner we know what you have to contribute, the better.

Do you have access to old diaries or letters of a former resident of Thurman? We're always interested in those, too. All materials are needed at least five weeks before the month of publication. And if you know earlier that you will be sending, let us know so we can be sure to reserve the space.

Community Calendar 2007

The Community Calendar

The 2007 calendars have lots of great old pictures of Thurman folks. You'll see members of many old Thurman families—Walter, Wood, Gallup, Parker and Ross families, to name a few. We've also had great support from the town and local organizations, so this year's calendar is full of useful information about meetings and special events. Priced at $8, they usually sell out very quickly, so be sure to get your copies now. They may be purchased at several locations:

In Athol:
Mannucis' Athol General Store
Thurman Town Hall
In Warrensburg:
Posie's Flowers and Gift Shop
Miller's Art and Farm
Nemecs'
Warrensburg Car Care
In Chestertown: Chestertown General Store

To have one mailed, please write to JTHS Calendars, PO Box 7, Athol, NY 12810 and enclose $8 plus $1.50 S/H for each calendar you order. As you browse through the new calendar, be thinking about photos you can share for next year's edition. Diane Golden will be looking for pictures with caption information throughout the year so we don't have a last-minute rush in the fall when we are so busy with other projects. Take out your old family albums and let her know what you've discovered!

GOT AN EVENT?
Does your business or not-for-profit organization have dates that should be listed on the Thuman Community Calendar next year? Listings cost only one dollar for each date, and they let everybody in town know when your group's regular meetings and special events occur. They also demonstrate your support of the John Thurman Historical Society and its work. We will need your information (and your dollars) by early fall, so now is the time to beginning your planning and discussion. When you are ready for us to "ink you in", please contact Perky. Let's make the 2007 calendar the most comprehensive ever!
